Behind the Freddie Marine print

Behind the Freddie Marine print

Our Freddie Marine print captures the quiet beauty of Australia’s coastline. Inspired by the weathered rock fishing signs that stand guard along the cliffs, it is delicately reinterpreted with illustrations of native saltwater fish. More than a motif, it is an ode to our natural world and the effortless beauty of our shorelines.

Heavily pregnant with my son, I would often waddle past the rock fishing signs situated along the cliffs where I live, stopping almost every time to take a snap a photo. I could never quite put my finger on why I found these flat lay of Australian fish so visually pleasing - but I did and this was the initial reference for our unique textile print.

We worked with an incredible textile designer to bring this artwork to life. After a visit to the local library and sourcing books on Australian native saltwater species, our designer hand painted with watercolour each of the fish you see in our print. The first presentation required no revisions - it was perfect.
